In-situ Cured Permanent Anti-Pollution Flashover Composite Coating (PRTV) for Outdoor Electrical Insulation

The anti-pollution flashover coating, also known as Room Temperature Vulcanized Silicone Rubber (RTV), is divided into RTV and PRTV types. It is mainly applied to the external insulation of insulators and electrical equipment in power systems to prevent pollution flashover.

PRTV coating, also known as long-term anti-pollution flashover coating, has superior properties compared with RTV, including enhanced hydrophobicity, better electrical performance, and improved mechanical strength.

Relationship Between PRTV and RTV-2

PRTV and RTV-2 are essentially different names for upgraded versions of RTV coatings. Compared to traditional RTV, they demonstrate significant improvements in the following aspects:

  • 1.Higher hydrophobicity and hydrophobic migration — providing stronger waterproofing, insulation, and anti-flashover effects.
  • 2.Longer service life — traditional RTV coatings typically last about 3 years, while PRTV coatings can remain effective for over 10 years.
  • 3.Comprehensive performance enhancement — as a long-lasting, maintenance-free material, RTV has evolved from multi-component to single-component systems. Today, both single-component RTV long-life coatings and PRTV ultra-long-life coatings are widely used in transmission and transformation equipment up to 1100kV.
