What does FUSE CUTOUT mean?

In power distribution, a fuse or a fuse is a combination of a fuse and a switch. It is used for primary overhead feeders and taps to protect the distribution transformer from current surges and overloads. Overcurrent caused by transformer or customer circuit failure will cause the fuse to melt, thereby disconnecting the transformer from the line. It can also be opened manually by a utility lineman standing on the ground using a long insulating rod called a hot rod. The cutout is composed of three main parts: ⁕ the cutout body, an open “C” frame supporting the “fuse holder” and a porcelain insulator that electrically isolates the conductive part of the assembly from the bracket that fixes the insulator. ⁕Fuse holder, usually called “fuse tube” or “door”, it contains interchangeable fuse elements and can also be used as a simple knife switch. When the installed fuse is working or blown out, the fuse holder will loosen, release the knife switch, and hang from the hinge assembly. The pendant fuse box provides a visible indication that the fuse is working and ensures electrical isolation of downstream circuits. A fuse or “fuse” is a replaceable part of a component that operates due to high current.
